Poverty is all Recardo Calloway has ever known.

Poverty is all Recardo Calloway has ever known.  He dropped out of school at eight years old and began to steal to help his mother pay rent. Recardo made new friends who told him he didn’t need to go to school, and they would take care of him if he joined their gang. He stole things, watched as his fellow gang members committed murder, and was shot twice. Recardo began a family of his own, and realized that his life needed to change. Recardo, his wife, and four children were evicted from their home with nowhere to go. They lived in a small car, and then found Providence House. The family graduated from the program, and his wife graduated from Bossier Parish Community College. She went on to pursue her bachelor’s degree at Louisiana State University-Shreveport. Recardo began working towards obtaining his G.E.D, and found full-time employment.
