Providence House Fast Facts
- A non-profit established in 1989.
- We serve approximately 90 families with children daily.
- Families with children comprise 41% of the total homeless population in the U.S.
- 33% of children in Northwest Louisiana live in poverty.

- Over 60% of our daily population is children, 50% of which are under 6 years of age.
- 27 families with children live at the Providence House main building on Cotton Street, each family lives in one room and shares a bath with another family.
- 45 families with children live in apartments maintained by Providence House in the Shreveport and Bossier area that become theirs when they graduate.
- 20 families with children and 15 single women live in the Domestic Violence Safe House in a confidential location.
- We provide everything a family needs at no cost to the family but the family must be willing to work the program in order to stay.
- Adults must invest half of their income in to their “Resettlement Fund”, which is released to them ONLY upon graduating the program.
- Families can be in the program for up to 2 years in order reach their highest level of self-sufficiency.
- We have the ONLY child development center for homeless children in the state.
- Our success rate for families graduating has remained around 85-90% since the beginning of our program.
- We receive in-kind services valued at approximately $3,000,000 to support our families.
- We serve 55,000 meals annually at the Providence House facility.
- The MAJORITY of our funds come from private donors and foundations.
- 85 cents of every dollar goes directly to the program.
